WE ARE STILL HERE FOR YOU.  We want to continue supporting youth living with mental illness. That is the first thing you need to know.  Here at Laing House, like you, we are troubled and nervous to see the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

We are now into the next stage of the pandemic here in Nova Scotia and we are all being asked to view our everyday activities differently and change how we live and work.

As a youth mental health organization, we understand this climate may feel even more challenging and unnerving. We know a lot of information is circulating about the physical symptoms of the virus and how to prevent the spread. But we also recognize there is a significant mental health component. We want you to know that we are with you through this time. We are in this together.

For Laing House, our top priority is ensuring the health and safety of the youth we serve, staff, and our community partners. We are also committed to continuing to serve youth. So this is what we are doing.

Firstly, our staff are working remotely. We invite you to join us in our digital neighbourhood. You can connect with our Community Support Workers by email, Facebook, and in the private Facebook groups. Peer Support Workers can be reached by email or through Facebook messenger.

For youth in Yarmouth and Sackville, staff can be reached by Facebook, email and text. Their contact information is here.

Some staff are already organizing community online games. If the social distancing is getting you down, check them out and join the fun. We need a little laugh now more than ever.

We will continue posting support on social media. It might be a positive message, an image or a link, whatever we can find that offers support during this time. Recently, we posted information about where people can find food support and security. We will work to keep this list up-to-date and repost often.

We are increasing our knowledge of how COVID-19 is impacting mental health. We are monitoring and will be sharing reliable and updated information as often as possible. We will do this though Laing House’s Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter. We will work on providing more self-care tips and coping strategies that can help during these challenging times. Use them for yourself and feel free to pass along to family and friends.

We know that everyone will be going through difficult times. We need to help each other and look out for each other. Prioritize what is important in your lives. We all need to have patience, practice good self-care, and have empathy for each other. Look out for your neighbours and continue to say hello or smile even from a distance. We miss seeing all of you. Seeing everyone’s faces is one of the best parts of the Laing House community.
