Youth Speak

Youth Speak is a youth led mental health workshop that deals with stress, mental health, mental illness, and the accompanying stigma. The youth and staff at Laing House have developed this interactive, multi-media presentation for students, teachers, and other professionals. Workshops are designed to increase knowledge and understanding around mental illness, available resources, and treatments. Its aim is to also reduce stigma and isolation and encourage youth to seek help.

Youth from Laing House courageously speak of their own struggles and successes navigating through life with a mental illness. They are able to model recovery, inspire hope, and relate effectively with their peer group. This format is very powerful as students hear firsthand how mental illness affects people that look just like them.

To book a Youth Speak presentation for your classroom, organization, or workplace, please contact Peter Duke, Youth Speak Coordintaor & Program Supervisor, at pduke@lainghouse.org or at 425-9018, ext. 228.
