Fundraising
Laing House was established through the generosity and support of Keith and
Rosemary Hamilton – both in terms of start-up capital and ongoing financial support.
In the past year a multi-faceted approach has been developed to secure more funding from the
community (individuals and companies and funding agencies), foundations and government. A
formal board of directors is in place and a fundraising team of senior volunteers has been
recruited. One hundred percent of board members have made a financial contribution in
addition to their volunteer time.
Requests for funding have been made to a number of granting agencies and foundations and a
degree of a success has been realized.
The Major Gifts team is in the process of visiting with top prospects in the community.
Cultivation is the first priority, as Laing House is not well known to many prospective donors.
Special events play a key role in the fundraising strategy as they create awareness, attract new
volunteers for Laing House and also raise much-needed funds. All special events are
co-ordinated through Laing House to ensure a continuity of message and prevent working at
cross-purposes with the overall fundraising strategy.
