Careers at Laing House

Fund Development: Resource Developer

(Posted July 14, 2010)

Do you have a passion and flare for writing ‘winning’ foundation, grant, and major gift proposals that capture the attention and imagination of funders?  Does researching new funding sources and finding that ‘perfect’ match with your organization and proposed program leave you with a sense of accomplishment and pride?  Is your ‘inner organizer’ always seeking an opportunity to assist with an event that is all about the guest experience?  If this sounds like you, your talents would find a good ‘home’ at Laing House.

If you are a positive, confident, and self-motivated team player that thrives on finding creative ways to secure funding for a youth-centred charitable organization, we want to meet you.  You are skilled at being sensitive to the needs of youth members, donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders and would be an outstanding ambassador for Laing House. You are a great match with us if you have tenacity, patience, and can find humour in almost anything.

You have a fundraising diploma, an undergraduate degree in business or public relations, or equivalent work experience.  At least three years of fund development experience in a charitable or nonprofit organization is preferred.  It would be a definite asset if you have experience with fundraising software (@Ease, Raiser’s Edge, etc.).

Planning, budgeting, researching, developing, executing, managing, and evaluating foundation, grant, and major gift programs, as well as corporate campaigns and third party fundraising events, inspires and motivates you.  You are driven to succeed and reach your targets by following a strategic and well thought out plan.  You understand that your analysis and evaluation of a program, campaign, or event is only as good as the data that you have collected and tracked throughout the process.

You are a flexible professional that can write communications for myriad audiences including reports for internal audiences and the Board of Trustees.  Your propensity to be detail oriented and extremely organized, combined with exemplary problem solving and critical thinking skills, ensure that concurrent projects are completed on time.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and PowerPoint are essential.  Knowledge of youth mental illness will be considered an asset.

If this employment opportunity and environment sounds like a fit with your skill set, values, and personality, we want to hear from you.  Please forward a current resume and cover letter right away.

Laing House is located on south Barrington Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We offer a generous vacation package, benefits, and a friendly, supportive environment. To learn more about Laing House, please visit our website: www.lainghouse.org.

Writing samples and a portfolio of work will be requested.  Remuneration will be based on experience.

Closing date is Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 4 pm.
