Three Members of the Laing House ‘Family’ Won 2008 Inspiring Lives Awards
At the 5th Annual Inspiring Lives Awards Luncheon on May 6, 2009 at Pier 21 in Halifax, approximately 400 guests rose to their feet in a standing ovation to honour all 17 of this year’s nominees. There were five award recipients and three of them are part of the Laing House family. Laura Burke, Peer Support, Andy Cox, Board member, and Joe Leger, Laing House Alumni, were three of the 2009 Inspiring Lives Award recipients. Dr. Stephen Ayers and Frances Nunn were also recognized. In partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association – Nova Scotia Division, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia recognizes the achievements of Nova Scotians who have inspired others as they face their own challenges with mental illness or addictions. All recipients have overcome obstacles and now serve as champions in their communities – inspiring others who face difficult circumstances.
